Position Summary

The Teaching Assistant will work in a classroom with the Lead Teacher to immerse campers in "content" based on the topic of their Major and guides campers in the creative/design thinking process. Campers then work in collaborative learning groups/teams to synthesize the information, determine the direction of their final project, and work towards its completion and presentation to a panel of experts on the final day of camp. Teaching Assistant’s will help bring a unique curriculum to life and to inspire campers to think creatively from a board range of interesting topics.

Position Scope Factors

Below are the MAJOR offerings for the summer of 2017.


Exciting Majors Include a Variety of Technology Majors: Minecracft, Robotics, Web Design, Coding, Video Production, animation and  and Game Design.


Additional Exciting Majors Also Include: Super Cool Science, Space & Rocketry, ESF Productions: Theater & Performing Arts, Just Dance, Art Studio, etc.


Major Camp  is featured at 9 different locations. As a Teaching Assistant, you will be working at one site exclusively.

  • ESF Haverford in Pennsylvania; located at The Haverford School

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Inspire campers to think creatively, critically, and innovatively
  2. Work with Lead Teacher in the classroom to immerse campers in a MAJOR of their choice through hands‐on, authentic learning experiences with exposure to “real world" experts, special guests, and field trips
  3. Empower campers to explore the world around them and solve real‐life, practical issues that engage their hearts and minds
  4. Impart your knowledge and expertise as an educator, resource and guide while campers navigate the scope of the 5 week MAJOR curricula
  6. Guide campers as they prepare for their ultimate group project
  7. Assist the Lead Teacher in organizing and preparing daily lessons plans
  8. Participate in exciting field trips
  9. Create an environment where every camper views him/herself as a vital and critical part of a team
  10. Promote and actively participate in all camper activities including morning and afternoon carline
  11. Other responsibilities as assigned
  12. Work effectively with fellow team members and collaborate on daily responsibilities
  13. Complete assigned paperwork
  14. Serve as a positive role model to campers
  15. Follow the ESF Code and maintain the ESF Look at all times
  16. Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and to adhere to all company policies

Experience Requirements

  1. Minimum of two years of post-graduate classroom teaching experience or comparable experience
  2. Knowledge of the subject area in which you will be teaching
  3. Previous experience working with children, examples include but are not limited to; babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, religious education teacher

Certification Requirements

  1. Teaching certification (preferred)

  1. Bachelor’s degree

Other Skill Requirements

  1. Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to and takes direction from Lead Teacher. May also take direction from and is overall accountable to the Major Camp Dean or Sr. Camp Director.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35lbs
  2. Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
  3. Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs.
  4. Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
