  • Position Summary

    Game Design Technology Specialist/Teachers is responsible for immersing campers in our exciting technology curriculum while guiding campers through the creative/design thinking process. In addition to constantly supervising campers, Technology Specialists/Teachers promote and actively participate in all camp activities, may lead recreational periods outside of class, provide a safe and fun learning environment, and serve as a positive role models for campers and counselors.

    Program Description(s):

    • If you like 3D-based video games then this camp is for you! Portal 2 is a first-person, puzzle-platform style video game that challenges you to use your wits to solve complex problems. At camp you will use 3D game engine software and Portal 2 to create an adventure that features intricate labyrinths, puzzles and traps. All skill levels are welcome.
    • Take your video game and level designs to the next level. ROBLOX® is a gaming platform where campers can produce an infinite variety of highly immersive experiences. In this camp, your game design is only limited by your imagination. With ROBLOX® as your game engine, you can create 3D multiplayer competitions, interactive adventures, car racing scenarios and many other types of game experiences.
    • Calling all future game developers! Bring your video game ideas to life as you learn the ins-and-outs of how video games are designed and produced during this two week program. During week one, learn how to use a number of software design tools to create Mario-like platform-style video games. In the second week, work with RPG Maker software to design and build complex role playing game worlds. Highlights of this program include informational lectures, as well as the use of a hands-on game design lab where campers design, customize, construct and test their creations. Campers are encouraged to take this camp multiple times


    A Technology Camp Specialist/Teacher teaches a minimum of 1 class but may also be considered to teach various programs at 1 or more locations.

    Position Competencies for Success

    • Work daily in classrooms and cover multiple technology topics
    • Implement camp curriculum and organize/prepare daily lessons plans
    • Inspire campers to think creatively, critically, and innovatively
    • Empower campers to explore the world around them and solve real-life, practical issues
    • Impart your knowledge and expertise as an instructor, resource and guide
    • Lead campers in the learning process through the use of 21st century skills such as: innovation, creativity, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, ethical decision making, collaboration, teamwork, time management, empathy, and leadership
    • Use effective classroom management skills and create a fun environment where everyone feels included
    • Communicate effectively using clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, families, peers and leadership 
    • Work effectively with fellow team members and collaborate on daily responsibilities
    • Provide oversight and instruction for your support counselors
    • Complete assigned paperwork
    • Serve as a positive role model to campers and counselors
    • Follow the ESF Code and maintain the ESF Look at all times
    • Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policies
    • Attend all required pre-camp trainings and submit necessary background check paperwork

    Experience Requirements

    • Two, or more, years of classroom and/or camp experience (or comparable experience)
    • Previous experience using technology in a classroom Must have previous experience teaching children
    • The ability to quickly troubleshoot, and repair, simple PC/Technology problems and errors

    Education Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Teaching certification (preferred)

    Reporting Relationships

    • Reports to and takes direction from Senior Camp leadership staff. May also take direction from, and is overall accountable to, the Site Director.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    • Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35lbs
    • Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
    • Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs.
    • Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
