  • Position Summary

    The General Manager (GM) is based out of the ESF Headquarters office in Bryn Mawr, PA and reports to the Chief Talent Officer. The GM is responsible for managing the program operations on a daily basis on-site for this six (6) week Summer Scholars Program in South Central Pennsylvania (end of June through early August). The GM assures optimum performance and continual improvement in five key result areas (site relationship, program quality, customer service, talent acquisition/management and site operations). The GM coordinates, directs and manages the staff and every day program operations to achieve profitability, customer, staff, and site partner satisfaction and efficiency while maintaining standards set by the company assuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.

    Position Scope Factors

    • Because of the nature of the position, ESF operates on a seasonal basis. This means workloads fluctuate during the course of the year. Due to this fact, normal business hours are set from time to time by Division Heads based on seasonal demands. Typically, post camp and Fall business hours are 9:00am-5:00pm and increase during winter and springs months as the position requirements demand
    • Oversee the daily and overnight operation of the summer day and resident 6 week program (24/7) in South Central Pennsylvania including the overall program, business, camper and staff supervision, transportation, food service, and health care from the end of June through early August
    • When the Scholars Program is not in session, this position will be based at ESF Headquarters, in Bryn Mawr, PA with travel as needed to and from the Residential Program in South Central, Pennsylvania. During the Program season, this position will live and work in South Central, Pennsylvania Monday through Sunday during the six week program

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    The GM is responsible for managing a Summer Scholars Program on-site for six (6) weeks over the summer. GM is responsible for the overall success of the Scholars Program, with additional responsibilities including:

    • Oversee the entire operation of the Summer Scholars program which includes day and residential students
    • Administer the admissions and financial aid programs, and oversee student recruitment programs to assure that the student body is diverse and well-qualified
    • Assist with curriculum development and explore innovative programs in the spirit of experimentation
    • Resolve issues that arise with respect to campers (g., homesickness, medical, behavior, housing)
    • Grow the business and manage sales (collaborates with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, Customer Engagement, etc.)
    • Secure feeder schools to build Day Program admissions
    • Build and manage parent advisory panels leading to “ambassador parents” who refer families
    • Give tours to families
    • Build and develop the team
    • Coordinate site relations (g., indoor and outdoor facilities used at camp)
    • Manage “predictable surprises” (camp operational challenges that can occur with facilities, staffing and/or site leadership in any given season)

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum 3 years of management experience in the education field
    • Previous residential camp experience strongly preferred
    • Ability to effectively work and communicate with multiple organizations
    • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
    • Experience with talent acquisition/management
    • Experience with sales and customer service
    • Experience managing, motivating, training and building a team
    • Experience managing an operating budget preferred
    • Passion for working with people
    • Solid attention to detail
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Access to vehicle in order to execute on marketing goals and manage site logistics

    Education Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree required 

    Reporting Relationships

    • Reports directly to the Chief Talent Officer
