  • Position Summary

    A PBA Academy Specialist is responsible for the supervision of campers and Team members within their Division.  They assist in monitoring the organization, supervision, implementation and administration of all activities and schedules.

    Position Objective/Purpose

    We are seeking motivated team members who believe deeply in the organization’s mission and who display a record of achievement in effective supervision & management of Team members and campers.  The candidate must be capable of building positive relationships, providing top-notch customer service and ensuring the safety and well-being of people of all ages.  This position will require the candidate to complete multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the professional standards of ESF and the Phillies Baseball Academy (PBA).

    Position Scope Factors

    • Instructional Specialists are hired in Sports Camp in the following age groups
      • Rookie: ages 6 – 7
      • A: ages 8 – 9
      • AA: ages 10 – 11
      • AAA: ages 12 - 14
    • Some travel required.

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Within their assigned Division (Rookie, A, AA, AAA), ensure the PBA Daily/Weekly Schedule is completely followed including all safety and security policies and camp traditions outlined in trainings and the PBA Components Book
    • By utilizing the PBA Curriculum, prepare, organize and facilitate daily baseball skill instruction within their assigned Division (Rookie, A, AA, AAA)
    • Teach baseball skills to campers and monitor Team Coaches as they teach the skills and fundamentals of baseball
    • Assign and prepare Team Coaches to facilitate instructional stations during skill development
    • Serve as a positive role model to campers and Team members
    • Conduct Team Meetings
    • Provide input and assist in conducting evaluation of Team Coaches
    • Assist and support the Field Manager & Operations Manager in any camp operation or activity
    • Act as liaison between ESF & PBA and camp families
    • Identify and meet camper needs ages 6-14
    • Model behavior & group management strategies for Team Coaches
    • Conduct tours of the camp facilities and program areas to prospective camp families when applicable
    • Oversee sign-in and sign out of all campers
    • Group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development
    • Monitor safety and security of all campers and Team Members
    • Follow the PBA Code and maintain the PBA Look at all times
    • Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and to adhere to all company policies

    Experience Requirements

    • Previous experience working with children in a supervisory or administrative capacity
    • Performance management and facilitation experience (preferred)
    • Professional (MLB affiliate Minor Leagues, Independent League), collegiate or high school baseball coaching experience (preferred)
    • Former baseball playing experience (required)
    • Professional baseball player (MLB affiliate Minor Leagues, Independent League)
    • Collegiate player (Division I, II or III, NAIA, JUCO)
    • Varsity High School player (from a known top-tier program)
    • 1 – 3 years administrative/leadership experience (required)
    • Staff supervision experience (required)
    • Youth coaching experience (required)

    Certification Requirements

    • First Aid/CPR (preferred)

    Education Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree

    Other Skill Requirements

    • Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community

    Reporting Relationships

    • Reports directly to and takes direction from the PBA Field Manager and Operations Manager.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    • Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus
    • Work outside, upright and mobile for six (6) to eight (8) hours per day
    • Respond to emergency situations which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertion
    • Possess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions – responsibilities listed above
